One year on, and how’s it looking ?
That’s a question I’m beginning to ponder on now, as we come towards the great Church seasons of
Advent and Christmas, and of course the usual stuff around the new year celebrations, where the whole thing of looking back and looking forward is pretty much a part of the season, and particularly appropriate now that we’ve been here for a year now. How’s it all gone? Well, the vicarage is pretty much settled now, with a few maintenance jobs needing to be done over the year, and it’s feeling much more like home now.
For the Churches, Michael and I agreed when I started that I would concentrate on getting to know the church families in the west-side of the mission community for this year, and hopefully, people here have become used to me being the team vicar. We’ve had a few new events like the egg-rolling at Easter, and the new “Silver Service” in Chittlehampton is proving to be very much appreciated. Hopefully we can look at new initiatives in other churches too, like the house-group at Filleigh which started for Lent, which is a good source of sharing and fellowship. So what about next year ? That’s the next question we have to get to work on. Maybe I’ll start getting to know more people in the eastern side of the mission community, perhaps participating in services or helping with events. We might even find new ways together of being church - who knows ?I’m looking forward to whatever comes next, and hoping to see the start of the whole mission community seeing itself as one connected family, as we can perhaps step a bit more outside of our own parish boundaries to benefit from being God’s church in a bigger sense. In the meantime, I wish you all a hopeful Advent, a blessed Christmas and an enthusiastic new year

Have you ever thought you would like to get involved with a local charitable organisation but not sure what is involved or indeed what you might like to do?

Our clients rely on small acts of kindness from people just like you to enable them to carry out daily tasks that many of us take for granted, e.g. shopping, social events or healthcare appointments.

Our core services are:
Ring & Ride (Shopping Bus)
Shopmobility (scooters and wheelchairs)
Out & About Club (social event day/half day trips)

There are different ways in which you can help:
The gift of time - please tell us how you would like to help. We will do our best to match your enthusiasm, skills and ideas to the various voluntary roles and projects we have that will help to protect our core services.

The gift of money - your money will be used locally, for local people, to help provide local services for the local community. This doesn't have to be a huge sum and perhaps you would consider making a donation to Go North Devon in lieu of sending Christmas cards to friends and family this year?

We are keen to hear from individuals; families, couples and community group leaders who would like to put something back into the community but are wary of committing themselves on a regular or permanent basis. We understand and recognise this concern and would therefore like to hear what you would like to offer.....no pressure to do more!

We have Friends who help out once every couple of months for a couple of hours due their own busy schedules and others who assist us on a more regular weekly basis.....the choice is yours!

To find out how to get involved with the Friends of Go North Devon please get in touch with Christine or Sharon at The Shopmobility Centre, Albert Lane, Barnstaple EX32 8RL
 or call 01271 328866

Look there's a rainbow
High in the sky,
A beautiful rainbow
To gladden the eye.
That wonderful arch
Brings hope to mankind,
Easing our troubles
And cares of the mind.
So look for the rainbow
And never despair,
For while there's a rainbow
We know God is there.
